Back to my container gardening bloopers. Oh, could I pick all the wrong pots.

Back in 2011, My family and I were living in Troutville, VA in this cute little ranch and I would try to grow herbs in my windowsill, on my kitchen table, and on the back deck.

I started with all the wrong pots (tea kettle filled with oregano soggy soil and no drainage) (salad bowls chives and thyme…)I had no idea how to pick the perfect pot… or containers.

3 Essentials for Picking the Perfect Pot

  • Size- Goldilocks (not too small… no room for growth, not too big, just right) Room for roots and stems to grow (med: 20 qt/18 liters) (large: 30 qt/20-28 liters)

  • Weight- Eco-friendly, recycled lightweight is best; when you add soil it’s heavier; not to mention if you move it from one space to another, so let’s save your back

  • Drainage- Drainage holes in the bottom are a must. It allows water to flow freely from the top to the roots.
